53.10.03 error on 4200

OK well my original problem (lack of LCD readout) was solved, but now we get a 53.10.03 error on startup. From what I gather, this is not a DIMM plug in RAM issue, but an internal one? 1 = random-access memory (RAM)
0 = internal memory (ROM or RAM)
0 = unsupported memory
3 = failed RAM test
any help on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Brad,

The information on how to replace the dimm in question is in the attachment.

thanks Dave, we tried that. no go. I'm under the understanding that "internal memory" is different than DIMM plug in memory...is that incorrect?

Unsure of the answer but if that's the case, then the formatter would have to be replaced. That is assuming the dimm(s) had already been replaced.

Just read your original thread from Dec 17. In it you said you just received these printers. Thought comes to mind that you have no history on these printers? Could it be that it has unsupported memory (dimm(s))?

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

not sure what you mean by unsupported memory dimms. it was missing DIMM originally (hence, the no lcd readout) we took one out of a different machine and the lcd lit up, but now this error. it's a 8mb/64mb Q2453-60001 DIMM. we swapped the whole silver box with one from a working machine and got a test page out of the non working machine, so it's obviously narrowed down to something in the box.

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

It's hard to diagnose when all information is not given. The silver box houses the formatter. Since the silver box worked in the problem printer, either someting on the formatter or the formatter itself is failing as you said. I'm afraid I haven't been much help since you have already have done the footwork.

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

is there a RAM chip on the board that could be bad? might that be the "internal memory" referred to? I dunno.

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

can anyone else help me out here? does the RAM chip on the formatter need to be replaced, or is there a flashable solution? thanks!

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

Brad:

Firmware DIMM must be installed in slot 1 for the printer to work normally so if you just take the Firmware DIMM form the working printer to test this one, you should find out. You can't just take a regualr DIMM and install in slot 1.

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

I've tried swapping out the firmware dimm same message. from what I understand the "0" in the "10" would be a "1" if it was a DIMM/firmware problem.

Re: 53.10.03 error on 4200

It coudl also be a problem with the DIMM slot 1 connector. Take a flash light and check the pins in the slot.
