4650 "Card Slot Not Initialized" message

Is this error due to a bad Firmware or memory card? The config page lists Dimm slot 1: 128 mb DDR, CARD SLOT 1: 32 mb F/W FLASH, EIO 1: JetDirect J7934A. All other slots are empty. Thanks

Re: 4650 "Card Slot Not Initialized" message

You need to go through the procedure to initialize the hard drive, even though you don't have a hard drive installed...

To initialize the hard disk:

1 Turn the printer on.

2 As the printer performs its power-on sequence, press and hold the PAUSE/RESUME (HP Color LaserJet 4600 models) or MENU (HP Color LaserJet 4610n and 4650 models) button until all three lights on the control panel are lit.

3 Press the left arrow button The message INITIALIZE DISK appears on the control-panel display.

4 Press the check mark button, the printer initializes the hard disk and continues its power-on sequence.

The card slot not initialized message should now be gone.

The button he is referring to is a back button. The arrow is almost the same as if someone knocked over a U-turn arrow.

Re: 4650 "Card Slot Not Initialized" message

after following your step by step instructions, there is no "Initialize Disk" to select.

What if there is no INITIALIZE DISK when you follow those directions ?

This 4650dtn has no hard drive and there is no  INITIALIZE DISK option.

I pulled the Jetdirect and used the up arrow to do a Cold Reset, to no avail.

Then you are not following the instructions. Read them again and do exactly as stated. If you got the cold reset then you pressed the green button on startup and not the menu button.

Got this to work with an HP Laserjet 4650n, but it took a few tries...

- Power on the printer

- Wait for the memory test to start

- Press and hold the MENU button until you see 3 solid lights

- Release the MENU button

- Wait for the printer initialization to complete

- Press the LEFT ARROW button until you see INITIALIZE DISK

- Press the GREEN CHECK button

Re: 4650 "Card Slot Not Initialized" message

I found the trick was to press the left arrow (the U turn arrow) after the memory has stopped counting up and is still sitting on 128MB.
