4015 Excel printing problems

[ Edited ]

Users are experiencing problems when printing Excel Spread sheets, the print outs contain incorrect characters.

I update the driver on the server to the latest driver, and it corrected the problem for a day. This morning the same problems are occurring.

Any Ideas?

Re: 4015 Excel printing problems

If the problem can be reproduced consistently, I would try the following to see if the behavior changes:

  1. Open an existing Excel spreadsheet
  2. Click File / Print and then Properties.
  3. When the driver Propertes window opens, click OK
  4. From the Excel print dialog, click OK.

If that doesn't work, please provide additional information about your setup:

  1. Client operating system and Excel version
  2. Server operating system
  3. Driver version and type (PCL5, PCL6, PS)
  4. A detailed description of the incorrect characters.    A scanned image of the incorrect output would be helpful.

Re: 4015 Excel printing problems

All Client operating systems are XP for this issue. An Excel versions are 2007 and 2010.

I currently have 3 printers on this server and all are using the same driver. All printers are having the same problem printing... On a different server (test) I installed the same driver and tested on the users machine the print outs come out fine. Driver Installation is the latest PCL6.

On the XP machines I am receiving Print warnings containing all of the HP Dlls and one machine is showing this error:

Failed to ugrade printer settings for printer \\XXX\4015_CSM,LocalOnly driver C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\hpmdp6dn.dll error 5.

I have attached a sample spread sheet..

Re: 4015 Excel printing problems

Thank you for the additional information.

I have a couple of suggestions that may help.

1.  Take a look at this hotfix from MS:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952206   This sounds similar to the problem you are having.

2.  When you upgraded the driver on the print server, did you replace the existing driver or delete and recreate the print queue?     If you haven't already done so, I would try the following:

  • Delete the queues that use this print driver
  • Restart the print spooler service
  • Delete the print driver from Server Properties (from within the Printers folder)
  • Recreate the print queues.

If the problem persists, you may also want to delete the printer connection and driver on the client and then reconnect to the shared queue on the print server.
