2605DN indicates cable disconnected but it is not

When I look at the Status in the HP FX toolbox, it indicates the cable to the printer is disconnected. However the cable is connected and the link light is on. Also I can print to the printer from computers on my network. In addition when I added this printer, it caused my network to begin routinely sending about 300 packets between by host computers. Does anyone know why the network cable is not being recognized as connected, or why all of this data is routinely being transmitted?
