Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

I can't find drivers for the Deskjet 1280 and Windows 7. In the compatibility list of HP drivers should be included in the Windows update but it isn't working.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

How about if you try searching the HP site, NOT Windows Updates.

No chance that I would EVER use Windows update for any hardware connected to my computer.

Try here:

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

I am having the same problem with this product,
when I go into the driver download section for windows 7 it says that there is not a driver available but that there is a simple work around within windows 7. this does not work, when going through the ADD A DRIVER using windows the repopulated windows update does not list the deskjet 1280. this is a series problem for me as i need to be able to print A3 and have only had the product less than a year. a simple upgrade to windows 7 should not affect me. PLEASE HP supply a driver for this printer

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Thank you Bruce, but indeed I checked first with HP the link you sent me, explains that you do not need to download a driver because it is included in the update from Windows 7. In the compatibility list from HP the 1280 is marked as being supported by Windows, but it isn't and there is no way to find a driver from HP.
I looks that HP forgot about the Deskjet 1280.
So if HP could look in this problem it would be very helpfull, as I need to print in A3 format and have upgarded my two computers to Windows 7.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

The Deskjet 1220 drivers should be compatible. Install them as discussed here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01796821 and pretend there is a line in step 1 that suggests the Deskjet 1220 driver as an alternate for the 1280.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Thanks for the reply Bob,

I followed the instructions on this page http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c0
1796821. the driver installed correctly and I could get the driver properties window up. I replaced the LPT1 port with the usb port and made it the default printer. the printer dialogue box works fine but nothing prints, it joins the que and goes no futher. another printer also shares this port and this printer A4 works fine.
would you kindly suggest some other options?
and did you mean the driver for deskjet 1220C?

cheers

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Thank you for the advise Bob but I had tried this one too. Installing a 1220 is working fine but as soon as you plug-in the USB cable from the 1280, Windows 7 recognise it as a 1280 and tell you that he can't find any driver for this printer.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Thank you Bruce, I was a bit quick, as I started once more using the driver for a 1220C and now I can print correctly.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Hi Pierre and Bob,

great to hear that Pierre could get his printer working however I am still having troubles,
I have uninstalled the other printer so as not to provide a conflict, then reinstalled the driver 1220C and followed the steps. I noticed that when a restart of the system occurred I would loose the printer USB port that I assigned to the 1280 in the properites dialogue box and windows is still trying to use the printer (am not sure whether this is causing a conflict). Can either of you guys please help.

cheers

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Hi Phil - you said another printer shares the same USB port. I think the system will assign different USB001...USBxyz ports to each printer, there should not be two printers with the same port. Check the "ports" setting and see if there is a different choice for your printer, it may be a DOT4 port or a USBnnn port.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Hi Bob,

When I check the ports for the printer there is Port USB001 ticked, Description - Virtual printer port for USB, Printer - HP Deskjet 1220C. I can see the printer in apps like Adobe Acrobat and can use this to print, however the data does not reach the printer, it sits in the print que. When I have the other printer installed it does not assign another port, it adds the printer to USB001 i.e. description - Epson CX3700, HP Deskjet 1220C. Can you suggest anything? I also noticed on another forum that the vista 64 bit worked, however it has not worked for me.

cheers

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

1220c driver downloaded from the Windows Update site works for me via USB connection. However, does anyone know where Windows Update stores the downloaded driver? I'd like to hook my Deskjet 1280 to a wireless print server (DLink DPR-1260); to do that I need to point to the actual driver location.

Re: Windows 7 Deskjet 1280

Hi, I've installed a vista driver for deskjet1280 on my windows 7, and it works. Downloaded driver from hp website and installed it manually (the way that was mentioned here in the link above) to the lpt1 port, after installation changed the port to usb.
