Hi, we have a designjet 500 printer that is giving us the error below when initializing.
" Open window and check if print head is properly closed"
We have checked and confirmed that the print head is properly closed!
Has anyone come across such a problem?

Hi Harvey,
Try this:
1. Power off the printer.
2. Take out all the printheads except black, close the latch..
3. Power on the printer, if it recognises the black prinhead, it wud prompt u to insert other printheads. then install them one after another. Check if u find any change in the msg.
Please check the dates on the printheads as well.
Revert for any clarification.
Regards,
Chris

Hello,
Thank you for your contribution. Now I did try that but couldn't resolve the issue. I have however, discovered that when you power off the printer and move the print head to the far right end and power it back on again, the printer completes POST and request for media. The problem comes in when it is testing media. At this point the print head would move to the right and move very fast to the left (about 2/3 distance from the far right) and then it would jam. On inspection, I noticed that the ribbon cable gets folded on top of the print head. Would you attribute this to a bad ribbon cable or some broken part that is supposed to position the ribbon cable?

Harvey,
Was the carriage assembly replaced or handled recently. If yes, Try refixing the trailing cable and also check by adjusting the carriage height.
Also check if the Printheads latch is intact and not broken.

Some Servicestation issues will cuase this error to come up. It's cuased by the service station not being able to put it self in the correct possition, so the carriage will smash into the wiper blades and you will see the printer asking you to close the printhead door latch.
So the service station is probebly broken and needs to be replaced.
