HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Hello,

I have a 5 year old Designjet 70 printer which so far worked well.

Recently the greytones come in a blueish colour, instead of grey. Black/white documents come in perfect black.

I cleaned the printerheads according HP instructions. The cartriges are all nearly full. The problem continues.

Who knows this problem and can help me?

Thanks a lot, kind regards, Michaela

1. Take out the printheads and check the date. If any is expired change them.

2. You should also do a color calibration. You do this from the maintenance utility.

You can also do a printhead calibration, and the page printed you can see the printer's basic colors.

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black. There you usually can see what color has problems. I think the maintenance utility also have a quality image page you could print to see the basic colors.

Re: HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Almost all colour shifts are due to gradually failing print heads.

Put some decent paper in the tray.
Start System Maintenance
Print the Image Quality diagnostic print at least four times as fast as SM will permit.
Look at the last sheet printed and read this page on how to interpret the test.

You will probably have to replace one or more print heads.

Re: HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Thanks,

The printheads expired after 2 years as I can see on the printheads date, but they worked much longer.

The maintenance programs are failing, neither working from CD, nor from Internet, can't download, maybe as I changed to Windows7 there is now a imcompatibility? What do you think?

Thx, greetings Michaela

Thanks Carl,

I will try this, if it still fails, it seems that new printerheads have to be bought.

Michaela

There are new drivers for Windows 7 and a System Maintenance tool on the HP site.

Uninstall all old versions and delete the folders on the hard drive.

Install the new drivers and the SMT.

The printer works well on Windows 7.

This is the 32bit version.

This is the 64bit version.

Hi Carl,

Finally I managed to reinstall the programs :-) and launched.

Yellow colour is failing, any idea to make printerhead running, cartrige is full.

Many thanks and sunny greetings from Spain

Re: HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Now that you have the System Maintenance tool working, print the Image Quality test. The test will tell you if a print head is failing. Make sure all ink cartridges are at least 25% full.

Put some decent paper in the tray.
Start System Maintenance
Print the Image Quality diagnostic print at least four times as fast as SM will permit.
Look at the last sheet printed and read this page on how to interpret the test.

Understanding Image Quality Diagnostic Prints

You will probably have to replace one or more print heads.

If you are unsure about your diagnosis, attach a scan of the Image Quality test.

Re: HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Hello Carl,

Thanks for your help so far.

For a few days I was not in the office, now restarting problem solutioning.

I made the Image Quality Diagnostic Prints and YELLOW fails, no yellow on the paper.

I cleaned the printhead manually.

I primed it 3 times (Printhead recovery 3 accord. utlility - hard)

I put the lower part of the printhead for 1 minute into warm water (recommendation of the forum)

Now I read as well in the forum, that the tubs could be dirty and blocked, or that they could have air or airpockets. Do you know how to access and clean theme or get the air out?

Thanks again, sunny greetings form spain

Re: HP Designjet 70

hi i have a hp designjet 70
my problem is that every time I turn on the printer you start the alignment procedure that should not be abuon head end. The problem repeats itself every reboot.
Sometimes it even turns off suddenly during this operation.
I noticed that no longer prints yellow
All of this may depend on the heads that should be replaced even if I do not report the fault on the display??
In addition, the mechanics of hp designjet 70 is equal to the hp designjet 100/110
greetings

Re: HP Designjet 70 prints greytones coloured

Replace the yellow printhead and it will probably work. One word of caution. Yellow tube has a habit of getting clogged on this unit so even if you replace the yellow printhead it will only last with the ink in the head and will happen again if the tube is clogged.
