Re: HP Designjet 500 system error 86 : 01 !

This is a carriage movement error. Can be caused by a number of items. First I would unlock the carriage and the trying moving by hand using the belt. If you feel a bumping action, then the belt has gone bad and will need to be replaced. If just tight you may want to lub the rail using a very light machine oil.

@DavidZuts: I have the same problem. Question: is it possible to exchange the belt by myself? I have found the part no. C7770-60014. If I order it from HP, do you think a normal guy will be able to install it?

My carriage seems to be locked in place on the right hand side. Is there some type of lock mechanism that I can release? Thanks.

When the carriage moves to the center after power turned on, unplug the power cord quickly.

Re: HP Designjet 500 system error 86 : 01 !

Hi,
THanks for the reply. The carriage will not move at all when powered up. It is stuck on the right side and the error 86:01 appears after powering up, without any sign at all of the carriage being able to move. Is there a manual way to unlock and move the carriage? THanks for helping.

So I guess you might have to open the right side cover, then rotate the little wheel little under the service station, so you manually move the carriage to other side.

Check service manual page 173 and you need T20 screw driver.

Good luck

Re: HP Designjet 500 system error 86 : 01 !

Wow, this worked. Turns out I had a piece of paper jammed in the end of things. The wheel turned easily though part, but then I realized I had to big it a little harder "push" to get the station moving. I found a spot where the carriage would move out of the way, then found the paper jam. THANKS!

Re: HP Designjet 500 system error 86 : 01 !

I've done all the things written above and it looked like the printer was going to work.

But when I wanted to align the printerheads I get the same System error.

The printer is saying that the yellow printerhead needs replacing, but is that the reason that he keeps getting error 86:01?

Or does a bad printerhead only means bad printing quality and is there something else wrong with the printer?
