HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

We have a designjet 500 42 with HPGL2 card

Everytime we send a print to the plotter the 61.05 error msg appears.

As per HP's instructions, I have:
Updated driver
Updated Firmware
Cleaned Printheads

And the msg STILL appears?

HP suggests communications error, so my next task is to replace the JetDirect network card.

Is this likely to fix it? Or should I try something else?

I tried a number of firmware upgrades but they kept on getting stuck half way through. I finally managed to update the firmware. The plotter was never switched off during this process. It may be that error has stemmed since the updates. Though I am not certain.

Any information would be appreciated.

Regards

Anthony

Hello,

As I have the same problem (with same hardware as yours) I was wondering if you found a solution yet ?

Thanks,

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

I have a similar problem.

Our HP DesignJet 500 + HP/GL2 Card has been upgraded to firmware A.2.10, and I am trying to print to it using Windows XP SP2, with driver revision 5.35.

Prior to upgrading the firmware (it had A.2.05), print jobs from this computer would result in D-width 100% black pages coming from the printer, or Warning 61:05. After the firmware update, I get Warning 61:05 100% of the time.

The firmware upgrade had to be done from another computer, as trying to upgrade from my computer would not work.

Other people here have no problems, so it's not likely the plotter but something wrong with my end PC. I can ping the network address of the printer and I get 100% successful transmission, no errors or lost packets.

I'm suspicious that something with XP SP2 has broken my ability to print.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

We have a DesignJet 800PS the user plots to the share for this printer and 61:05 error appears. I did a test plot from my PC to the share successfully.

I had the user remove and reconnect to the share. The the user rebooted his PC.
The user was able to plot without errors.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

We have a DesignJet 500 with the HP GL/2 accessory and it recently started giving that same 61:05 error.

Does not matter what system prints. Obviously the printer doesn't like what it's getting, but why that would be with EVERY system all at the same time... kind of points at the DesignJet 500.

Sure hope someone comes up with a fix.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

I ended up having to replace the GL2 accessory. That fixed the error for me.

While waiting for the replacement part, I switched to the non-GL2 driver and the printer worked fine (though fewer options). When the part came in, installed the GL2 driver and everything is nice.

By the way, the newest GL2 driver is much nicer than the old one.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

When upgrading to new firmware the HP500 w/hpgl2 card lost connection. Now the error 61:05 when sending files. Removing the HPGL2 card and changing the driver works. Is there anyone who knows how to reprogram a dead HPGL2 card?

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

As stated in my earlier comments...

Replacing the GL2 card fixed it for me.

It's my understanding that reprogramming the GL2 card is not an option. The failure is a hardware failure.

It was a hassle, but worked VERY well when the new GL2 card arrived.

I don't think we have a GL2 Card. We are connecting over a network. Verified connection with ping and telnet. Upgraded 615N firmware. Please help. What am I missing?

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

Check you unit and confirm that it doesn't have the GL2 card (it's just a module plugged into a socket on the option card). The system information should be able to tell you if it's detected.

Also check your drivers. If you're using the drivers that indicate GL2... and you don't have the GL2... that will cause a problem. Must match drivers with the options your unit has.

May not be any help, but it's something to check.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

System Error: 61:05
Problem Description:Error Processing Job.

This Error Code only appears in HP DesignJets
800 Series, or in the HP DesignJet 500 Series with an HP-GL/2 card installed, when processing either a PostScript or HP-GL/2 file.
Corrective Action: Try the following:

Switch the Printer Off and wait a few minutes. Switch the Printer
On again and resend the file that you were trying to print.

If the Error Code reappears after resending the file, then try
generating the file again and try to print again.

If the file that is causing this error is PostScript, check if it is
Binary. If the file is Binary, use AppleTalk to send the file to the
Printer. If AppleTalk is not being used to send the Binary file to
the Printer, then change the PostScript settings to Binary through
the Front Panel (Set-up menu / PS settings / Encoding / Binary).

If the Error Code continues to reappear, check for a new release of the driver.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

OK I found the solution:
Wrong driver.. use the 2005 driver for the roll sheet. For me it was HP DesignJet 500PS 42 by HP. I tried other drivers even with the correct name and it didn't work.

Anyway this is an annoying website that requires registration hindering anyone from input, I struggled to post anything with the crap you have to go through.

Enjoy,

Luke

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

Brand new Designjet - right out of the box - generating same error 61:05. Network connected with Jetdirect card. Plotter works with Autocad 2002, but generates error from Autocad R14. I am NOT familiar with R14. Plotter is supposed to have GL2 card installed - how do I check?

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

one thing..
the autocad R14 guy, your never gonna get that to print, pick a newer version of autocad

to everyone else, have you checked the language set on the front panel? you could be set to PCL or CAD language, and it needs to be set to Automatic.

re-seat your HP GL/2 card and if you have aditional memory on it, make sure you re-seat that cleaning it off.

make sure that your using the proper driver and not a HPGL/2 driver with a regular or PS printer.

dont alwayse rely on what it says on the front panel, what is your model number? is it a PS when you are thinking its just a regular machine?

Are your printheadss all in date and under usage? if they are above it is possible that it may cause this error aswell.

Do you use shared out drivers? if so you might want to just suck it up and install locally on your machine.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

I think there was a patch for R14 and these plotters, But as R14 is no longer supported then the patch may not still be available.
the hpgl/2 card should be in the back of the machine next to the network card if it has one, a printout of the printer information will tell you if you have one or not (and whether its working). I would advise anyone to take the hpgl/2 card out of the plotter when doing firmware upgrades, we hav e fried one doing upgrades in the past, so now we take the card out.
after a firmware upgrade the machine will ask to be turned off and on again (by pulling the power cord out)
if a firmware upgrade doesnt take, try doing it through a parallel port connection, and if that doesnt work there is a safe (emergency) mode for upgrades too.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

Also check that you have the correct driver, if you have the hpgl/2 card but use the standard non hpgl/2 driver that will push a 61.05 error, if you dont have the hpgl/2 card and try using the hpgl/2 driver that will post that error too, I always think of 61.05 as being file not recieved in expected format rror, usually due to the wrong driver installed.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

okay ive seen it many many times before where you get a 61:05 because your trying to use a PS driver with a PCL printer

PCL is the default language, so try that driver for your plotter, it may be a bad HP GL/2 card.

Also R14's problem was that its old as hell, before this printer was even made, so there are issues unless your using a DJ 430, also you cant have long file names, so you need to move your images you want to plot to the C:\ drive directory

But try the other drivers, firmware shouldnt be your first action.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

the long filename problem can be got around by reverting to pre version 6 drivers, version 5.35 works great for us.

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

Hi,

Be sure that no one in a network situation send a job via a ps driver to a gl/2 dj.

Does the error occurs when printing via usb for example or printing internal dj pages without any connection? ->if not, possible JD card. Update fw jd card (search HP site for download manager)

Remove gl/2 card and print via pcl only. Does the error returns -> if not, possible gl/2 card/formatter

Try changing slots
consider main-pca (elec module)

Re: HP DesignJet 500 System Error 61:05 Processing Job

The firmware upgrade will trash the hpgl2 card if you leave it in during upgrade. You must remove it prior to upgrading firmware. If you already upgraded firmware and left the gl2 card in, then you must replace the gl2 card to get past 61:05 error
