Re: HP 750C Plus System error 070020

You probably need a new mother board on your plotter. I had the same kind of erratic behavior before I had mine replaced. You ought to test the plotter without any additional memory, jet direct, or optional ROM SIMM installed. You should get a new mother board as soon as possible. HP has discontiued maintenance contracts on the 750c. I know this because I reported my problem two days before the my contract ran out.

Re: HP 750C Plus System error 070020

Phillip,

This error refers to an issue with the Drop Detector.

The first step in troubleshooting is to make sure that your pen checking is set to 'on'

(front panel menu - device setup - cartridge check - on)

and to run a drop detector calibration

(front panel menu - utilities - press up and enter at the same time - go down to 1c : drop detect cal - press enter)

If the calibration is sucessful, power off the unit and restart it. That should clear the error from coming up anymore. If it fails, you may want to try replacing your cartridges and trying again, but there may be an issue with the drop detect sensor, which would require the service station being replaced.

Re: HP 750C Plus System error 070020

HP has discontinued support only on the 'A' models of the 750's, model numbers: c3195a, c3196a, and c3198a. They went out of support around the end of October 2001. The c4708a and c4709a models go out of support around the end of September of this year.

Re: HP 750C Plus System error 070020

Hi there.

I got the same 070020, after upgrading to WinXP from Win98. Suposing a problem with the drivers (brand new ones from HP), gone back to 98 (fortunately I had installed multiboot), to find the same error, but at least now prints (in XP I just got the error).

I tryed the drop detector calibration, and now get a 070000. It's 20 points down! Thats good, right? ;-)

As good as grounded in the water? I'll try with new cartridges, but would like some advice.

Any help will be preciated, thanks.

Re: HP 750C Plus System error 070020

if the DJ has been used numerous years and had not had maintenance yet it could very well be that the service station ( on the left hand side of the DJ, where the cartridges rest ) is dirty (the drop detector is part of it)
you could carefully try to clean it
also make sure that the black rubber belt is not worn, the metal strip with the small lines and the slider rod (metal rod) are not dirty
also try lubing the slider rod

it could be that the service station need to be replaced
