Designjet 500 System Error 21:10

Does anyone know what System Error 21:10 is that is showing up on the front LCD panel on our 42" printer?

It also gives me an error, PRINT MAINTANIENCE ADVISED. What does this mean? Is it broken or just some detting needs to be updated? All cartridges are filled and not print head errors. The belt and paper look fine.

Hi Tom,

The error 21:10 means that there is an issue with the service station. (Service Station Failure)

Service station is an assembly that wipes and caps the nozzles of the printheads. In addition to that it also allows the printhead to spit some ink in the spitton to clear its nozzles. Because of this deposition of ink , there is a bulge created in the service station, which may lead to printhead crashes, Print Quality Issues. etc

As you are also getting a "Maintance advised" message, I would suggest you to try replacing the Service Station assembly.

That should take care of your issue.

I tried cleaning the area where the printheads sit, and the rubber wheel in there was gunked up with ink. I cleaned it, and manually cleaned the printheads, replaced the black one and I still have the issue. So I guess a service call is in order. Thanks!

I agree with Chris. The 21:10 error means there is a problem with the service station and it should be replaced. It takes me about 15 minutes to replace it. The problem is that you need to go into the service utilities menu and unlock the carriage before the part can be replaced. After the part is replaced you need to go back into the service menu and reset the service station usage counter and that will get rid of the Maintenance Advised message if it is at 100% usage. If not some other part of the machine might need to be addressed.
