Cannot update JetDirect J3110A firmware

I am attempting to upgrade a JetDirect J3110A from firmware version G.08.04 to G.08.49, but the upgrade fails when I use HP Download Manager software. The progress indicator stalls after approximately 10%.

I have tried several different network configurations, but even directly connecting a PC using a fixed IP address and a crossover network cable does not solve it.

There are no other services running on port 69 and I can connect to the JetDirect's embedded HTTP and FTP servers. Is there any other upgrade method I can try? When I FTP the firmware file it just prints it!

Dominic,
I have exactly the same JetDirect and the same
firmware rev. I have used the Download Manager
"with firmware bundles" (hence no need to be
connected to the Internet) and it tells me
that this card is not upgradable.
Hope this helps somewhat.
