Re: PA RISC & Itanium Compare

What part of the architecture? Hardware and devices or the machine instruction set?
Or software conventions?

Re: PA RISC & Itanium Compare

Dennis,

I don't need it in details. Just a overview in general. Like you can tell to lehman who wont expect much deep technical stuff.

Re: PA RISC & Itanium Compare

Thinking that there must have been some reference to a comparison document cited on the Forums somewhere, I tried a Google search on "+compare +itanium +risc +site:itrc.hp.com". It turned up lots of discussion, but no documents.

Re: PA RISC & Itanium Compare

Expectations:

-PA-RISC will eventually be phased out
-Performance: a relative term, somewhat equivelant in the past with the exception that the IPF proc speeds are increasing and core numbers.
-IPF runs HPUX, VMS, Linux and Windows ( in order of importance :)
-Price: IPF priced slightly better than PA-RISC

In a nutshell, if your applications support IPF then move to it.

Google only finds that bogus link in another thread, perhaps where Ahsan got it?:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1027165

On that html link there is an Intel fact sheet:
