Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

Howdy all.

I have a bit of a conundrum. I manage the HP-UX servers for a software development company. I am in the position where I have to continue supporting HP-UX 11.00 for at least a few more years. We still have customers on 11.00 and the decision has been made to continue to support our product on the OS.

But my current 11.00 servers are all older K-class 260s and 360s. And I am finding it increasingly difficult to find 3rd party hardware support on the things. So what I would like to do is move to servers which are a bit newer and could be mountable in a 19" rack.

So I have a question. What was the most recently released servers on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported? I can't seem to find any information on HP's site (not too surprising) and I was hoping one of the gurus here might know or have one of the old support matrices.

Thanks,

Kyle

Re: Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

How about used L- and N-classes (rp54x0, rp7400)?

Hope this helps!

Re: Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

I know the L-series (L1000, L2000, L3000) and N-series (N4000) will run HP-UX 11.0. The A500 will as well, I believe.

I don't know if the newer rp54xx or rp74xx would run 11.0.

Re: Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

All rp24xx and rp54xx servers can run 11.00. The older versions of these servers were originally known as A-class and L-class, respectively.

rp7400 (a.k.a N4000) can run 11.00, but rp7405 and above have the Cell architecture that was not (at least officially) ever supported on 11.00.

So it looks like the rp2470 (A500) may be the best fit for what I'm looking for, small form factor with a good amount of oomph (at least for 2002).

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Shalom Kyle,

So it looks like the rp2470 (A500).

Obsolete and off hardware support.

Get a pair so you have some spare parts/fail over server.

As is HP-UX 11.0, so they make a perfect pair.

I don't disagree with SEP's statement, but if you have 3rd party hardware support make sure they have an ample supply of parts. Else it may not hurt to have a spare lying around.

Re: Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

Yeah. The unsupported hardware/software combo does not make me terribly happy. But at least I can get replacement parts from third party vendors, which is no longer the case with the older K-class machines. If I have to maintain older unsupported stuff, I want to maximize my odds as much as possible. I will definitely pick up more than one.

I trust your development company is offering versions of the software which are supported on later revisions of HP-UX?

Re: Newest Hardware on which HP-UX 11.00 was supported

According to the public_hp-ux_systems_support.pdf document the A500 (rp2470) is support until 2013.
11.00 is unsupported since 2006.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
