Memory population

Hello Gentlemen

I am about to add memories in a server which hosting application that uses memory to hold most of the transaction/Data.
in order to achieve the best performance, what would be the best way to add the memory.

we need to reach 64GB of memory and we have 16 slots.

Option A: to add 8*8GB
Option B: to add 16*4GB

It will be so much appreciated to add links for references.

Thanks Alot

Re: Memory population

Hello,

You should check your server's documentation.

Re: Memory population

Hello,

There should be not a problem to use eighter of the configuration (if the server would allow this setup).

If I would be the person to choose from, I would chose the 8*8G sollution (fewer hardware to install means fewer points to break the whole system in case of one module failure)

But once again, you should first check the server's manual.

Best regards
Horia.

Re: Memory population

Thanks Chirculescu

Actually i am talking about concept?

I have a strong feeling that more memory slots will reduce the bottlenecks, but i am not sure about its trade-off?

Thanks

Re: Memory population

Well,

For this you should ask for some answers from your local HP dealer/reseller.

Re: Memory population

The answer depends on how the memory bus is structured, and each model can be (and often is) designed differently in this regard.

There is no technical reason why smaller memory modules would _always_ out-perform larger ones. In fact, sometimes the reverse is true, because the larger capacity modules may use newer manufacturing technologies.

So there is no universally valid answer other than "see the documentation of the specific server model(s) you're considering".
