How To Tell Fiber Lan Cards From Copper Lan Cards

I am told that in order to get my hp-ux server up on the network, I would have to replace my fiber lan cards with copper lan cards. Is there a way to visually tell the difference between the two and is one card superior to the other?

If you would provide the output of

# ioscan -fn

this could be helpful.

Hope this helps!

Well, the plug on the card will be significantly different. The 10/100/1000 card will have an RJ45 interface for CAT5/Cat6 cable.

The fibre card will probably have an SC or LC interface, which looks nothing like and RJ45 plug.

Compare to this picture and don't mix up with fiber channel cards ;-)
