Re: HP 9000 rp5430 replacement

Hi

I dont have much understanding on server side but i think you can upgrade it with BL860c HP itanium Blades .

All,

Can any one suggest how can we lean KB on Server HW side bcz at our site there is no HP HW we have to do all the things remotely.

Re: HP 9000 rp5430 replacement

You have many options today depending on the answers of the below questions

What is running on the server right now? OS and software.

How many i/o slots are you using?

Can you upgrade the OS to a newer release?

Can you run whatever is running on the rp5430 in itanium rx server?

With a budget constraint, you options seem to be

rp3440/rp4440 if you must stay with RISC CPUs can not use itaniums

rx2660/rx3600 if you can use itanium CPUs.

The BL860 blades (itanium) look attractive but they require the overhead of a blade chassis. If you only need one server the blade is not an optimal solution.

Re: HP 9000 rp5430 replacement

We know the OS is HP-UX but what version? And are you planning to upgrade the OS? Are you planning to upgrade oracle? Is there any application running on the top of oracle?
How much memory and what kind of storage interface cards are in the rp5430? What storage are you using?

With $30k you can get a rx2660 but you need to upgrade the OS to 11.23 (or 11.31) and you need to reinstall oracle. If you have an application running you need to check if the app will run under itanium based OS. If you have storage attached to the server you need new interface cards (SCSI, fiber) for the new server which will add to the price. The storage may not be appropriate for the new server.

There are too many questions and you need to provide answers, is is NOT as simple as "I have an rp5430, therefore I can replace it with an r..."

Re: HP 9000 rp5430 replacement

HP9000 servers are no longer sold, so consider to get an Integrity (runs 11.23 or 11.31):

Hope this helps!
