This is a recurring problem. I go to print or scan, and my computer doesn't recognize the printer and scanner. I have had an AT&T tech support guy reinstall the driver 3 times. Everything works for a while, then all of a sudden, the computer doesn't recognize them again.
Why does this happen over and over?
Is there permanent fix?
If I were to get a new printer/scanner, what would prevent this from happening with a new one?

What model printer do you have? What Windows version?
How is the printer connected to your PC?
What changed since it last worked without your recent problems?

The printer is HP PHotosmart Premium Fax All-in-One C410
Operating system - windows 7
I don't know what has changed, and it seems odd that after re-installing, it works for a while, then doesn't work any more.

This could be due to using a DHCP assigned IP address instead of a static one in the router. I.e. when the DHCP lease expires, another gets assigned to the printer and the PC doesn't know it changed.
What kind of wireless router do you have? Do you know how to login to the EWS of the router to look at the configuration?
Can you print a config page of your printer to check the IP address?

Thank you for your reply, and I'm way less technically savvy than you, so I can't do what you suggested. I don't know how to log into the EWS of the router or print the config page of the printer.
The router is from AT&T.

Try following those. Perhaps this would be easier that my previous suggestions.

I just ran the wireless network test, and it says wireless is on and working and says "congrats on the setup of your wireless printer", but the printer does not show up on my computer as one of the printers I can use.

On the printer?
On Page 9 of Troubleshooting for a wireless printer setup, there is:
Find out the Network Name (SSID), Hardware Address (MAC), and IP Address. See the Configuration Summary for these details
Can you print this, we need to know the IP Address.
In your browser, can you type in that IP address?
For your router, can you type in the IP address in your browser? Mine is one of the two:

This could be due to changing of the printer's IP address. The computer thinks it is different.
On Devices and Printers, right click on the printer and select Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
What does the checked Port show?

I don't know if my message got through. I responded that I have a HP6500A Plus Printer/Scanner, I am using Windows 7 and it is connected wireless and nothing has changed that I am aware of. Should I be receiving something that says that I have connected? am I too impatient?
