slow transfers from FTP

I recently upgraded a 918 to 988. Since the upgrade when I transfer files from FTP they are much slower. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: slow transfers from FTP

Hello Titus,

Upgrading the s918 to s988 (both same family of serie server) should not have any impact on FTP performance...unless NIC (Network Interface Card) is changed from 100BT to 10BT (which I doubt).

Have you also updated the OS from MPEiX 5.5 to 6.0 or higher?

On MPEiX 5.5, FTP is managed from the ARPA services (the FTP background job is FTPMON).

On MPEiX 6.0 or higher, FTP runs from the Internet Services (the FTP background job is JINETD). By default, JINETD runs in the priority queue of DS; HP recommends to have this job to run in the CS queue. Change the job using your favorite text editor so that it looks like example below then restart the job. The jcl is JINETD.NET.SYS.

!job jinetd,manager.sys,pub;pri=cs
!run inetd.net.sys;pri=cs
!eoj

Re: slow transfers from FTP

I'm running 5.5 with powerpatch 3. The slow down is when i'm transfering Binary files. When i'm transfering ASCII files everything is ok.

Re: slow transfers from FTP

Hello Titus,

Theoretically, there should not be a performance issue when FTPing ASCII or BINARY file to the same remote server.

The latest powerpatch express release on MPEiX 5.5 is powerpatch #7; there are some FTP enhancements added to MPEiX 5.5 since powerpatch #5. For more details on FTP enhancements, refer to the C.55.05 Communicator available here http://docs.hp.com/mpeix/onlinedocs/30216-90257/30216-90257.html.

Since your system is running powerpatch #3, it might be helpful to install the latest powerpatch #7 if you choose to stay on 5.5. Or, you may upgrade the OS to a supported release (6.5, 7.0 or 7.5).
