swinstall RPC exception: "Connection closed (dce / rpc)"

Upgrading from 10.20 to 11.00.
During the command line "swinstall -x logdetail=true -x allow_incompatible=false -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true -x reinstall=true -x reinstall_files=true -x os_name=HP-UX:64 -x os_release=B.11.00 -s /cdrom" I get the following error:

* Beginning Execution
ERROR: RPC exception: "Connection closed (dce / rpc)" 09/14/04 16:52:41 CDT
ERROR: Could not perform the requested operation for "hp3:/", possibly due to a network communications failure or the agent
timing out. Check that the host is still accessible from the network, and the agent_timeout_minutes option is not set too
low.
* The execution phase failed for "hp3:/".
* Execution had errors.
The agent_timeout_minutes at default is 10000, so this does not appear to be the issue because I get the error after about 2 minutes of runtime. Any ideas?

Re: swinstall RPC exception: "Connection closed (dce / rpc)"

Upgrading 10.20 to 11.0 is full of problems and errors and is not an eaasy process. You would be better off doing a clean install of 11.00 and reloading the apps on 11.0. You could spend days solving problems faced with an upgrade, where you could do a clean install in a couple of hours.

Hope this helps.

Regds
P.S.: Did you remeber to install the swinstall tools from the 11.0 cd before proceeding with the upgrade. Your problem could be because of that.

Re: swinstall RPC exception: "Connection closed (dce / rpc)"

Though a cold install is a much better idea, the actual cause of the problem seems to be a loss of network communication. Looks like you were doing the install on a remote ignite server using nfs.

Re: swinstall RPC exception: "Connection closed (dce / rpc)"

Hi Guys,

You try to register that bundle on the server and try .

Steps

                Make sure that bundles are exist

                                Swlist –l bundle –s /cdrom

                Register bundle

                                Swreg –l depot –s /cdrom

                Confirm depot registered

                                swlist –l depot –s /cdrom

                Try to install

                                swinstall -x logdetail=true -x allow_incompatible=false -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true -x reinstall=true -x reinstall_files=true -x os_name=HP-UX:64 -x os_release=B.11.00 -s /cdrom.

                If the depots are in the remote server (nfs) that time also we may face the same error. That time also registering depot on nfs server some time fix this kind of errors

                      Swreg –l depot –s <abdsolute path of depot>

                Swinstall …….-s nfsserver:<path>

Unix is case sensitive.  You should use the Options menu on the right and use Edit Reply to correct all of your bad command names.
