HPUX 11.31, Trying to remove java 1.5 and it is creating about a dozen or more dependent filesets. Most of these are Virtual server related and workload manager. We have Java 6 and 7 installed. Any easy way to get this java 1.5 removed? can i turn off enforce dependencies, or will that create a big issue?
P.S. This thread has been moved from HP-UX>System Administration to HP-UX > patches. -HP Forum Moderator

Setting 'enforce_dependencies=false' is rarely a good idea, in my opinion.
If you want to make sure that Java 1.5 is not used, you can always rename the java binaries themselves to something else.
Here are the Java 1.5 binaries on one of my older 11.11 systems:
# pwd /opt/java1.5 # find . -type f -name java | xargs ll -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 126648 Jul 27 2006 ./bin/PA_RISC2.0/java -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 133944 Jul 27 2006 ./bin/PA_RISC2.0W/java -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 130744 Jul 27 2006 ./bin/java -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 126648 Jul 27 2006 ./jre/bin/PA_RISC2.0/java -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 133944 Jul 27 2006 ./jre/bin/PA_RISC2.0W/java -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 130744 Jul 27 2006 ./jre/bin/java
Forcibly removing java does have the potential to break other things, if other software truly does depend on Java 1.5. By first renameing the java binaries. Then if nothing breaks, you could try to remove the software completely.
