how to check type of OS installation (i.e. MCOE, technical OE etc.)

[ Edited ]

suppose I have to install patches for different OS types (i.e. HP-UX Mission Critical, Technical, etc.) and since the patches must be specific to the particular type of HP-UX OS.

"uname -a" nor SAM -> Performance Monitors -> System Properties show anything on this.

How or where can I check this info?

Hi,

Do a

swlist -l bundle |grep -i hpux11i

YOu should see something like HPUX11i-OE-MC. You can get it from it's description.

Re: how to check type of OS installation (i.e. MCOE, technical OE etc.)

The patches you install will not be specific to the OE (Operating Environment) you install, rather the patches will be specific to the software packages within each OE.

Each OE is basically just standard HP-UX PLUS some additional software. For example the Enterprise OE contains MirrorDisk, Online JFS, Glance and other software. The Mission Critical OE contains everything the others have plus MC/Service Guard and others.

So if there is a patch, and it is for MirrorDisk/UX, it doesn't matter which OE you are running. The MirrorDisk patch will be the same whether you are running the Base OE or MCOE. The same for all other patches.

So to get patches specifically for each OE, you must first know what software each OE contains and go from there. 'swlist' is your best friend here.
