SWA on Server with no internet connection

I am trying to run SWA on a couple of servers that are not allowed to connect to the internet. This is what i did.

I downloaded the catalog from HP on another HP server with internet access by using swaFetch.jar file with my ITRC account.

Then i transferred the catalog to the server without internet access and unzipped it.

When I run the swa command on the server without internet access I am being asked for my ITRC account and password. When I enter them I get an ERROR (see below). I have looked in the admin guide but I do not see anything on how to get past the ITRC login. Any suggestions on how to run swa on a machine without access to the internet????

Command run and output
#swa report -x catalog=swa_catalog.xml -x catalog_max_age=-1

(user=root) (jobid=tc13092)

* Gathering Inventory
* Using existing inventory for host "tc13092"
Enter your ITRC account User ID: ca692220
Enter your ITRC account Password:

NOTE: More information may be found in the Software Assistant logfile
"/var/opt/swa/swa.log".

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

Don't use swa, use swinstall instead.

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

According to the SWA Admin Guide:

Use the SwaMin product to gather inventory and upload to the HP IT Resource Center web site at http://
itrc.hp.com for analysis (currently patches only).

once you run the SwaMin you would put the data on the server that has access to the internet and use SWA there or you can upload the information to the itrc site and then transfer the data to the non-internet server. This only works for patches currently.

Hope this helps!

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

Greetings.

Use swainv tool instead so yo can create an inventory.xml file which you can copy to a machine that has Internet access and upload it to HP for "Analysis" using their Pass Assesment process at:

http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/assessSystemsPage.do?BC=main|

"swainv" can be downloaded from:

http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/addUpdateSystemsPage.do?BC=main|assess|

Save it and chnmod _x and run.

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

Thanks, that works for what I need to do. I never did get the instructions in section 5 "Running SWA on a system without internet access" for the SWA admin guide to work.

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

I see that you have worked around the problem already. Another workaround would have been to use the "-x prompt=false" extended option which would not have prompted you for your ID and password.

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

I went back and tried the -x prompt=false option and that fixed the problem. Now I have 2 possible solutions. Thanks for your help...

Re: SWA on Server with no internet connection

both solutions work, if you want to use swa use the -x prompt=false option or use swainv command and upload to HP.
