Re: Installed software location

Hi,

The actual location is /var/adm/sw/.

You can list the installed software with the swlist command.

# swlist -l product

You need to use # swlist -l product and # swlist -l file

Re: Installed software location

You can use the SD commands like swlist not only against the system itself, but also against depots and depot files.
Try

# swlist -s /var/adm/sw/DEPOT

to view the content.
If this is a valid depot, you even can remove software from this depot
# swremove -s /full_path_to_your_depot

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Installed software location

"Installed software" is a broad term. All HP software is packaged using the Software Distributor (SD) so swlist is the correct command. Howeverf, many vendors choose to ignore SD packaging and simply throw all the files into a tar file, and also fail to ask the admin where to store these files. There is no record of these packages. They might be stored in /opt (preferred location), /usr/local or /usr/contrib. If the software follows HP-UX startup standards, there will be a start/stop script in /sbin/init.d and occasionally, something may be installed in a / directory (the worst location).
