HP-UX 10.20 Patch Installation

[ Edited ]

Hello,
I have installed patches on a HP 9000 box (D class)running with HP-UX 10.20 using a patch bundle CD. Is there way to ensure that all the patches have been installed properly?

Thank you for your time,
Peter Ramsumair

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Patch Installation

Hi,

swlist -l patches would help.
check the log files in /var/adm/sw/log

Also,

/usr/contrib/bin/show_patches

swlist -l product | grep PH

In think you also need to see what the state is:
/usr/sbin/swlist -l fileset -a state | grep PH

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Patch Installation

Hello,
Thank you for all the information. I, however, have a question:
- I installed the 10.20 patches using a patch bundle CD. Is there a list of the patches on the CD available? I want to ensure that all the patches on the CD were installed properly.

I look forward to any response.

Thank you for your time,

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Patch Installation

Assuming you have mounted the CD on /cdrom,

# swlist -s /cdrom -l bundle -l product -l subproduct -l fileset

or, if your swlist is now new enough, you can experiment with -R

# swlist -s /cdrom -R

Note however that not every patch on the CD can or should be installed. Some are hardware specific, and if you don't have the software for that hardware installed, updates on the software are not required.

Update CD's might have a subfolder instead of tnhe mount point, so you might need something like

# for d in /cdrom/*/catalog ; do
> swlist -s `dirname $d` -R ...
> done

Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn

# swlist -s /cdrom

Hello peter.

If you want to see if there was any error message installing patches check

/var/adm/sw/swagent.log

Shalom Peter

swverity \*

The \* can be changed to be the bundle name on the CD.

swverify with the -F option can be used to correct certain problems as well.
