DST and NFS

I applied the DST patch on 5.1B and my nfs mountd process on the server goes away when tyring to connect from a client.

Re: DST and NFS

I think I have found the issue. I believe that Tru64 UNIX has a issue using NFS over TCP. Switching the setting to use UDP allowed the mount to work fine.
Talking with HP, they suggested using UDP instead of TCP for a local connection. They did not have an answer as to why TCP did not work since TCP is supposed to be more reliable.
I am still waiting for some answer from HP as to why TCP does not work. I do believe we have run into this issue on more then one customer site.

Re: DST and NFS

I would suggest using -i option when you run mountd. For example:

/usr/sbin/mountd -i -n

Also make sure that clients name is registered in NFS server's /etc/hosts file.

Re: DST and NFS

Unfortunately the NFS mounts are happening from PC workstations using pcnfs. The workstations use DHCP and most customers do not register DHCP addresses.

We normally have to remove the -i option when mounting otherwise the mount fails.

Just curious as to why the mount would fail without the -i option. Our customers have been doing it without the -i option for years.

Re: DST and NFS

Whether NFS mounts happening before you applied DST patch to PK6(BL27)?

Re: DST and NFS

Tru64 engineering has reproduced the problem with mountd in BL27 PK6.

It is not related to the DST patch.
