Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

[ Edited ]

We have figured that Trim 7.1 is slow with Office 2007 compared to trim 6.2.3. Has anyone else observed  the same? Any suggestions?

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Can you describe in more detail what you mean?

What is 'slow'?

What action/activity?

Which Office application?

Is it only 'slow' when using the integration? (e.g. saving into TRIM?)

There is a big difference between the old integration and the new one developed for 7.1, so wouldn't be surprised if there's some unknown performance issues. (Never seen it perform slowly in my environments)

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Slow while trimming Office 2007 document (Word, Excel, and PPT). Initially its greyed out while document are uploaded in Trim7.1, takes few second (10-15 seconds) to change grey icon to Word or Excel or PowerPoint.

At the moment it is in our test environment with three users. Bit of worry when this 10-15 sec adds up for 1000+ users

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Ah, I think I know the behaviour you are referring to.

It might be a delay for the check-in process and I think this has been reported before.

If you log a support case, I'm sure the APJ team will know what this is and hopefully have more information on it for you. (I can chase it up later if you want?)

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

I found a few CRs (Defects) logged in the system related to this.

Support can look into these further and ensure they are related to the bahaviour you are seeing:

CR 42189 - Auto Check In - Unreliable Behaviour

CR 40881 - MS Word not releasing document for check in

No, I don't think so.

Only certain CRs are publicly visible.

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Hi Trim users

Any word on this one? Trim integration preformance seems to be quite a contention point at a number of sites at the moment.

Particularly with Office 2003/2007

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

As above, what exactly is wrong?

What part of the integration or process isnt 'performing' well?

We need specifics if we are going to attempt to replicate and make sure R&D are woring on it. ;)

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Just had a chat to client site.....

She is experiencing intermitted hangs of the actual TRIM software throughout the day . When either Word or Outlook is open.

They are operating in a mixed environment (7.1 client - 6.2 WGS) I have requested they connect to the supplied TRIM 7.1 test WGS and respond with any findings.

I have had some other clients that have the same mixed environment and have not experienced a hanging of software.

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

That problem may be independant of the integration.

If the full client is freezing, it could very well be the connection to the workgroup in some way being interupted and re-established.  As you suggested, testing with the 7.1 server would be a good start.

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Any release on those CR cases? Have had a number of reported sites experiencing perfomance issues revolving around TRIM 7.1 and office 2003/2007..

Any known fixes would be great.

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

Nothing unfortunately.

Really, it would be best if we can get specific details of what is 'slow' and what actions users are following.

Being able to remote in to these clients would be good too. :)

Re: Trim 7.1 slow with Office 2007

One example with Outlook integration is that under certain conditions (using online mode instead of cached exchange mode) and characteristics of an email (possibly including it being an HTML email that loads a picture from the internet), clicking the email can cause Outlook to hang for an unusual amount of time, regardless of whether the preview pane is active.  Disabling Outlook integration or altering the mail profile to use cached exchange mode allows the affected emails to be selected/previewed as fast as usual.  I have a ticket about this open, but it hasn't really gotten anywhere as HP hasn't been able to reproduce it with sample email I sent them.
