here is one of the solutions:
1. Turn off the laptop, take away battery and power cord.
2. Open cover on the bottom just under touchpad (there is 2 scrue). You should see RAM block(s) and small battery for BIOS.
3. Disconect the small 2 wires connector of this Bios-battery and wait a littlebit.
4. Put everything back, turn on the laptop.
After this display should work. After start press F1 for defoult settings in Bios. Good luck.

It seems this thread started some time ago and users keep coming back with the same issue, it did happen to my daughter's laptop, a Pavilion 9205UA, the computer boots up and goes all the way to the operating system but it will not have video output, well, I've connected an external monitor and used the function key to change between internal and external video display, and it does display the video output in the external monitor. So called HP and they will charge $229.00 for replacing the motherboard.

You most likely have a ticking time bomb in the sense that failure is most likely imminent. The problem was that there wasn't sufficient cooling of the GPU chip
