bios update

hi can anyone please help keeps saying this when i put my lab top on it is Hewlett-Packard HP OmniBook PC HP OmniBook xe4500windows 2000 pro it says smart failure predicted on hard disk o:wdc wd600ve-00hdto-(pm) and then i have ro press f1 i thought the bios just might want updating but is still doing it.un less i have done some think wrong when updating the bios i noticed the one i got of here is of 2004 is there no newer ones that that cheers kenny doomed

If you are getting Smart failures you may have a Hard drive failing. It appears to be a Western Digital Drive. Go to there site and download the diagnostics and run them. see what comes up it may be your HD is on the way to dieing

You can disable the SMART notifications in the BIOS setup. Though that will be ignoring the impending death of your hard drive.
