USB / serial converter

Hi everyone

My Omnibook XE3 has no RS232 serial port, but it came with a USB adaptor that the OS automatically recognised the moment I plugged it in.

1. What if I want a replacement? What's the part no? (printed on the USB end is "MT608-2 USB CONVERTER" and a serial no. That's it! A search for that part no on this website comes up empty)

2. What if I want to use it on another (desktop) PC? Where would I get a driver?

Any ideas would be appreciated...

Chris

Re: USB / serial converter

Thanks Keith. Who would have thought -- look for a compaq part. Figures though! :-)

Re: USB / serial converter

Chris,

a) look at the post from Jeff in this article
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x2e05237a4bc6d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

b) i have attached a zip file
containing the driver that came with my Xe3 and that converter.

Hope this helps

Re: USB / serial converter

There are also 3rd party solutions available as well such as one from siig. I believe iogear makes one too. This is becoming too common with all the laptop makers not including a serial port with the latest and greatest products. Argh!!!!!!

Re: USB / serial converter

Thanks Trevor! After all this time I hadn't expected there would be any further responses.

I seem to recall that I found the drivers on my hard disk under "HP" or "drivers" folder...!
