Large disk within Xe4500

Hi all,
When I put a new 250Gb hard disk in my HP XE4500
the machine boots but it takes 5 minutes to
display the first welcome page of Windows XP Pro
and I have to wait very long to have any application running.
I would be grateful if you could help me.
Thanks in advance for your kindness and time.
Warm regards,
Itsarinya

Re: Large disk within Xe4500

You probably have some application that accesses/scans the boot drive during startup.

It is a good idea to partition the drive into 2 or 3 partitions, which can then be formatted with three drives (C:, D: and E:). The programs all go on C:, your data on D: and recovery programs, backups, etc on E:. A 100Gb/100Gb/50Gb split is probably appropriate.

If this doesn't help, you should check that the XE4500 can actually address a drive of 250Gb in size, go into the Bios setup and check what it reports for the hard drive. If it doesn't report 250Gb but something less then without a utility like Ontracks Disk Manager you will only be able to use the reported amount of the drive.

Other possibilities for the problem include unfinished installations, unconfigured network devices and unfortunately viruses/malware.
