nx6325 fingerprint reader and winXP log-on problem

I don't understand what is happening here; the blurb says the fingerprint reader can be used to log on to windows "instead of using a windows password". So...

I've set up admin account and user account.
I've registered fingerprints for both.
I've selected "use Credential Manager to logon to Windows".

But every time I logon CM comes up... and asks for my windows password!

I've also gone into "Authentication and Credentials" and selected "fingerprint only". Guess what - it still asks for my windows password!

As this is a replacement for a stolen laptop I was impressed with the concept of a fingerprint reader - but it seems pointless right now.

Is it possible to get CM to accept my fingerprint and nothing else to logon to windows? If so, how?

Thanks
