eSATA Disk in 230W Docking Station forgotten

[ Edited ]

I have an 8560P EliteBook connected to a 230W Advanced Docking Station. The 8560p has an internal SSD drive and I have mounted an identical SSD in the eSATA bay of the docking station which I want to use for automated backups.

This works fine except that after a while the SSD in the docking station is "forgotten" (i.e. doesn't show up in Windows Explorer). I have to either reboot or remove and re-insert the SSD to get Windows to recognise it again. This means my automated backups always fail (they are scheduled for night time).

Any idea why this is happening? What can I do to keep the SSD in the docking station permanently mounted?

I am using Windows 7 with all HP and Microsoft updates installed.

Thanks

Nigel
