ProBook5310m - infrequent crashes, dxgmms1.sys

a new ProBook 5310m, running on Win7 pro 32bit has the following infrequent crashes:

- System halts completely with screen content completely scrambled (vertical/horizontal stripes or bars)

- System gets blue screen dxgmms1.sys / PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I have attached photos of the symptoms.

What I have done/checked so far:

- BIOS memory and disk test -> no errors

- memtest86 -> Laptop restarts after a few seconds of testing

- Windows 7 memory test tool -> out of 3 tries, 2 halted the Laptop without error messages on the second test round.

- removed and then re-seated memory module.

I also opened a support case with HP support but I'm quite reluctant to reinstalling the OS as they suggest because I fear this will only result in my time being wasted.

Unfortunately I do not have a spare memory module to find out if memory causes the problem or maybe the main board.
