ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

[ Edited ]

Hello everyone,

I have a solid working tech level but struggle with network-related things.

I've owned the XT943UT version of the 4520s ProBook for 3 weeks now.

Perhaps unwisely, I completley deleted the previous System and Recovery partitions that came with the laptop and thereafter installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Everything works great except that I have no wireless capability. Device Manager has a generic "Network Controller displayed". I did confirm that the hardware was working properly before I wiped the hard drive though (wireless internet worked) so I am convinced it's a missing driver issue.

Please know that I've tried running all of the drivers from this page but to no avail. Plus, there is a vast selection of them so it's difficult to know which one to focus on. I'll download them, double-click, and run. After installation however, I will get a message saying they did not install properly OR the software will install but the Device Manager will still fail to identify the "Network Controller" which has an exclamation icon. Even if I point the Device Manager to the directories, drivers, or related files, it will quickly say that Windows could not find the software.

The 4520s that I received did not come with any kind of Recovery or Factory Reset disks so I don't know what to do. Please help someone! Maybe I'm not installing the drivers correctly? Any other information you need, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

Please post the device detials ID string for your missing wireless card. Click on the network controller in the device manager. Then click on the details tab. In the properties window, drop down to the second item on the list (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters you see. That string indentifies the manufacturer of the network controller and the model of the network controller.

With this info, hopefully we can find the drivers for it.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

This should be the driver for your  WLAN card. The device details ID string you posted reveals it is a Broadcom Wireless N card with the BCM4313 chip.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Glad I was able to help.  :smileyhappy:

Nothing like a working PC.

If you want recovery disks (will cost you $10), here's all you need to do:  They will be for the OS that came with your notebook:

1. Write down the part number and serial # on bottom of the computer on the white tag. The model # is an HP-Compaq ProBook 4520s, but the part number will be found on that white tag below the serial #.

2. Call HP at 1-800-952-7689, option 1 (ordering restore disks is part of the list in the option).

3. Provide the info asked by the rep that answers the phone. Some just ask for the serial #, some want both, or they will just want the serial number and type of computer (ProBook 4520s).

4. Have a Master Card or Visa ready for purchasing. They don't take Discover. You will be charged $10.00.

You will receive the disks by First Class Mail or you can pay an additional $10.00 for FedEx shipping.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

The first missing device is this:

Ralink RT3090 Wireless Lan Card with Bluetooth

Now, I'm not quite sure if the driver below covers the wireless and the bluetooth part or just the bluetooth. So, download and install this and if you still don't have a wireless connection afterward, download the second driver I posted which is for the Railink wireless card.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

I think that the bluetooth driver above will take care of the second problem you have (USB\VID)

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

Do you know what wireless card you have in your computer?  Is it the Broadcom wireless with integrated Bluetooth?

If it is, try downloading and installing the Broadcom driver with bluetooth software again;

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

If you have a different wireless network card that means you have the HP integrated bluetooth module and you will need to download the HP software for it to work:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

If niether of these solve your problem, I don't have any other suggestions except to say that possibly the bluetooth module is defective.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

Sure I can...You have the Atheros AR5B95 Wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n Controller.

Here is the latest driver for that card: Good for any Windows OS.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi there.   I have a HP 4520s too and I have some problems with it..

I have win 7 home premium 32 bit.

I was able to install the broadcom wifi driver. In the device manager it says that This device is working properly. and the driver is up to date but still not working.

Another problem is that i can't install the bluetooth driver :| it says that the bluetotth needs to be turned on to install the software. (I tried ralink and broadcom drivers too).

I have some issuse with the ethernet controller too.  Here at home the internet is working but at  my friend it isn't.  It says no internet acces. I have internet from UPC  and  my friend from Nextgen.

Here are the hardware ids, please tell me what drivers to use.

wifi:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103C&REV_01

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103C

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280

PCI Simple Communication:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&SUBSYS_1413103C&REV_06

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&SUBSYS_1413103C

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&CC_078000

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&CC_0780

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

First, I recommend you install the chipset driver and reboot.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

If you haven't installed the HP Wireless Assistant, you probably will need to install that in order to turn the Bluetooth on.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

If you have the integrated bluetooth device , the bluetooth drivers and softare to run the bluetooth can be found at the link below:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

The first set of Hardware ID's reveal you have the Broadcom 4313 wireless adapter. I would install the latest driver for it:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

The second hardware ID is your HM55 Express Chipset LPC Interface Controller - 3B09. The chipset driver you first install should resolve that.

If the chipset driver does not resolve that missing device, install this driver, and see if that takes care of it.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

The last ACPI device is probably your 3D driveguard driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

Hi:

You bet I can--even if it isn't an HP...

You have the Atheros ar9285 Wireless Network Adapter

Here is the link to the lastest HP drivers for your WLAN card. They should work for yours too. If not, go to your Acer support page and download the drivers for that adapter.

Re: ProBook 4520s Network Controller drivers

We have several HP Probook 4520s laptops with Ralink 3010 wireless controllers.  I need to force them to connect at 802.11n, but I don't see any setting/advance setting to make that change.  I verified the latest driver is installed from HP support site.  Any ideas how to force 802.11n?

Thanks
