Actually a better forum for this would be the laptop forum but I'll try to help. There could be multiple reasons for your wireless problem. It could be on the laptop side or it could be on the wireless access point side. So a few questions
1. Is the wireless you are trying to connect to at your work or home? And can other connect to it?
2. If this is wireless at home have you tried to reboot the wireless device?
3. Will your notebook computer see and connect to other wireless access points?
4. What operating system are you running? XP, Vista, Windows 7?

I have the same problem :(
we have 3 laptops at home, the other 2 work just fine, the other 2 are DELL
this one is HP of course that's why i'm here
the model is HP pavilion dv6 3025dx
my mom dropped it about 3 months ago, just saying
it can't connect to the internet at all, no wifi appears, not ours, not the neighor, nothing, there is a red X
AND yes we did check if the wifi button was working but the light still red not white like it's supposed to
it's Windows 7
my dad told me it's a driver problem so he told me to download 2 and we tried to install it, and we did unistall before doing that, it didn't work and he's pretty good with laptops so it was surprising he couldn't help me with this
so now i have no idea what to do or where to start, i don't have a flashdrive but i do have a cd so if i need to download something i could just save it there, can i do that? i did it before but i didn't work .
my mom threw away all the cds that came with this laptop, i hope i don't have to lose all the pics that are in the laptop but if that's what it takes then go ahead. thank you, please help :)

I am using a cable to our modem to get on right now but can't get on through WIFI, which works because another computer is connected to it at this very moment. I "added" our local wifi and that didn't work. I get the message "wireless capability turned off". I have no idea of how to turn it on on this EliteBook 8460P laptop.

I have an 8460p also and my wifi works fine.
Open Device Manager
Scroll down to Network adapters
Double click on Network Adapters
You should see two Intel listings
Right click on Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N6205
If you see Enable in the list, click on it and it wil turn on the internal wifi card.
Hope this helps.

1. Perform a Restore Defaults in BIOS using the steps provided below and check for the occurrence of the issue.
a. Enter the BIOS by restarting the notebook and pressing the F10 key when you see HP logo screen.
b. Select the ‘File’ tab and then choose ‘Restore Defaults’.
c. Select ‘Yes’ to restore the BIOS to its default settings.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP
