HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

HP Probook 4515s won't turn on normaly after updating BIOS to F20. Thing is when i press power button, notebook start working, but screen remains blank. HDD led is amber and constantly blinking and CapsLock led blinks 5 times at begining which means motherboard general failure. But after some time (5 mins to 4 hours sometimes) it start booting BIOS then windows and continues to work normally all the time until computer is put to sleep or shutdown. All of this never happen before updating to F20, and problem is that now it can not be downgraded using standard methods. Does anybody know any possible way to return BIOS F10, or other solution to the problem?

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

Like they hired someone to make faulty updates, but worst of all is it can't be downgraded to working BIOS.

And all i can do now is praying my laptop to turn on after 4h and never again turn it off.

If anybody knows "dirty" method for downgrading BIOS, i'm ready to try it out.

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

I got it to update by following the instructions contained within the BIOS. Press F10 at splash screen or Esc then scroll to BIOS Update.

Check box to Update BIOS on Next Restart.

Extract the folders & files from sp59994

It says to copy HpBiosUpdate.efi to F:\Hewlett-Packard\BiosUpdate

I copied all the files from  C:\SWSetup\sp59994\BiosUpdate

Don't overwrite log file.

After restart it will start the BIOS flash process.

These files were already in their proper folder:

F.30 files are in folder F:\Hewlett-Packard \BIOS\New

68SRR.BIN     1/12/2013

68SRR.SIG     1/12/2013

After flash, check BIOS System status for version F.30

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

My BIOS family is 68CPP so latest version is F20 AFAIK, which I have already installed. BIOS from sp59994 is for 68SRR BIOS Family. But I will try to flash to F10 using this method. Thanks.

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

Your BIOS is F.20, sp55879. December 12, 2011

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

At the bottom of the Release Notes:

NOTE: After this BIOS update has been installed, prior BIOS versions cannot be installed.

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

Yes I saw this already.

Prior version can not be installed, F30 for 68GPI BIOS doesn't exist and F20 isn't working properly.

Any solutions?

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

[ Edited ]

Your "F"-Drive might have the folling folders:

\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS

\Hewlett-Packard\BIOSUpdate

BIOS folder has 3 folders:  Current, New, Previous

sp55879 will have extracted into C:\swupdate\sp55879

Copy 68GPI .BIN to F:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New

Copy 68GPI .SIG to F:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New.  It should be located in F:\BIOS\Previous.

Copy HpBiosUpdate.efi to F:\Hewlett-Packard\BiosUpdate

I copied all the files from  C:\SWSetup\sp59994\BiosUpdate

Don't overwrite log file.

F.20 should be close to 12/20/2011

The dates of these files will tell you what the version is.

Restart computer & it should start the update procedure.

If successful, the New folder is empty,  The Current folder & Previous folder are the same, except Previous is now lower case.

Re: HP Probook 4515s won't turn on

Thanks for trying to help me, but mu laptop won't turn on anymore.

I waited whole day maybe more without luck, so i can't apply your instructions.

Need to buy new one without HP signature, and hope that it will last more than 2 years.

Thanks again.
