In the device manager I get a yellow exclamatory mark in Network controller even after downloading and installing the respective driver Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver. The packacge extracts itself and there is no confirmation of finishing the setup. Help needed.

You may have a different model WLAN adapter in your notebook than the Atheros.
Please click on the network adapter needing drivers in the device manager.
Then click on the details tab.
In the Properties drop down list, select the second item (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters you see in the window.
Those will identify the model of the wireless adapter in the notebook, and I will send you the link to the drivers for it.

I will need to know if the same happens when you try to install any soft pack or its specific Atheros soft pack giving such an error . If it’s happening with all the soft packs then it can be an issue with windows installer.
To isolate the issue I suggest try finding the hardware ID under device manager
Device manager > right click on yellow exclamation mark> properties
Click on details, one of the tabs at the top next to drivers
Click on the drop down and select hardware ID
Please let me the hardware id (complete one )

Thank you, I just figured out. You were right my network controller was different(Realtek). Infact there is no Atheros hardware in my notebook. The HP site mentions it wrongly in the product specification. Please correct it other wise it will mislead many people and many will come for help. Wasting precious time of both the customer and technician.
product no. B0L64PA.
Thanks anyway Sayantan Dutta.

Can you provide a link to drivers for these hardware IDs (lists copied from device manager) w/in the Win 7 Ultimate OS?
This is running on a Probook 4530s that became severley infected. I decided to install Win 7 from scratch and Ultimate is the only version I have media for. After installation, I found there are no network drivers. I did not know that Ultimate was not used on the 4530s (is that true?) Thank you very much.

You're very welcome.
Below are the links to the drivers you need for the hardware ID's you posted:
I don't know if the 4530s was offered with W7 Ultimate but as far as I know the drivers for Home Premium or Pro will also work on Ultimate and Enterprise.

Thanks! I downloaded the drivers onto a flash drive. I cannot get Device Manager to recognize the files as drivers when I click Update Driver and then provide the path to the flash drive. Must I do something to the "spxxxxx.exe" files that I downloaded for Device Manager to recognize as drivers? Thanks again for your help.

You're very welcome.
Just double-click to autorun the exe files.
Follow the on screen instructions.
The files are designed to automatically install the drivers.
