HP Compaq 6710b HPQ0004?

Hi,

I've recently purchased this machine and downgraded to windows XP pro. On device manager I have the following unknown device

ACPI\HPQ0004\3&B1BFB68&0

Does anyone know what this is. I've downloaded and installed the protect tools and quick launch buttons. A specific driver name would sufice.

Thank you

Re: HP Compaq 6710b HPQ0004?

Namur,

I ran into this problem myself this week. That device refers to "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor". I am not sure which driver you need specifically but you need to install all the security tools for the HP laptop.

Also you need to make sure that you are using a Multi-processor HAL in your windows XP install(Press F5 when you see the message to press F6 for Third party drivers).

For My 6510b(sister to 6710b) i used the "ACPI Multiprocessor" HAL. If you do not use a Multiprocessor HAL the laptop will load this device, howevere it will always display a yellow !. This is because a standard HAL is designed for a Uniprocessor and IRQ23 is in use by the primary CPU on the dual core processor. With a Multiprocessor HAL, IRQ23 can be shared by both cores. After Windows XP loaded for the first time i then installed all drivers for the Laptop(Downloaded from HP site).

After a reboot this device " ACPI\HPQ0004\3&B1BFB68&0" was showing up as an unknown device. I have found that this device requires two Device drivers (Accelerometer.sys & hpdskflt.sys located in c:\windows\system32\drivers). These drivers did not appear to be installed after installing all of HP's available drivers. I had to use a 2nd 6510b laptop that still had the factory image on it. I copied the whole drivers directory from the HP Factory image onto a flash drive. I then had to do a copy from a command prompt to the problem laptop. The reason for this is that some files within drivers are in use and a windows copy will stop when it encounters the first in use file.

I think however you only need the two sys files mentioned above. Once i had compeleted the steps to this point, the OS still couldnt get this unknown device recognized. I had to uninstall the device and shutdown(Not restart). When I turned the unit back on the OS recognized the hardware and installed it as "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor" and it should be found under "System Devices" in Device Manager.

Hope this helps you out Namur. It took me two days of effort and three re-installs of Windows XP to get the problem resolved.

Re: HP Compaq 6710b HPQ0004?

Hello guys.

I had the same problem on a couple of computers - we buy the cheapest machines so there is no consistency in model!

I just build a 6710b today, and came across the same issue. i found that installing the HP softpack driver sp31992.exe fixed the problem.

As mentioned above, this is the driver for XP Professional (and home, and tablet) for the MOBILE DATA PROTECTION. It seems not to be model-sensitive. I found many, many HP nxXXXX computers share drivers, as we use a central repository system at the moment.

hope that helps everyone - you could use this for any HP notebook that is having the same error.

Steve

Re: HP Compaq 6710b HPQ0004?

is there a version of the HP 3D DriveGuard for Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64? Or does the 32 bit version work on it? I have a Pavilion dv7 1450 that I wiped and installed Ultimate but even with all the drivers listed for my machine none are the 3d drive guard though I'm seeing the same ID value of acpi\hpq0004. I also found I needed a driver for the JMB38X MS card reader that was not provided on the HP web site for my computer also. Any help for the 3d drive guard on vista ultimate 64 appreciated.

Re: HP Compaq 6710b HPQ0004?

I ran into a number of problems with an HP laptop where I couldn't find the devices ACPI\HPQ0004 and ACPI\ENE0100 to find the drivers to resintall them. I spent 3 days looking before I finally found them, so I blogged about it and provided links to the particular device driver downloads:

I hope this helps.

THANK YOU GREATLY for this tip, it resolved my issue as well on an 8740w laptop and saved me a service call after replacing a failed hard drive :-)

TOO BAD THIS FORUM'S CODING IS SO POOR,  I tried to add a star and as expected it didn't work. But anyway... You are the hero!

So, on my HP 8740w with XP SP3, I unsitalled the device in device manager, upon restart, it looked for the drivers. I simply pointed to the already installed Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Drivers\Global\HPMDP\x86\folder where the accelerometer.sys and hpdskflt.sys were installed and it worked!

For future refenece, I'm saving a copy of these drivers with the accelerometer install package and these instructions for good measure

KUDOS, MY FRIEND!
