I use a docking station while working at my desk and detach it from the docking station when I need to take the PC with me. When I close the lid of the laptop to detach it from the docking station, it goes to standby (power settings). When I open the lid back and hit power button, it comes out of standby OK, but explorer (explorer.exe) hangs. I can switch between applications (alt-Tab) but I can not launch a new application, or even log off.
This was a reproduceable explorer.exe hanging issue, but I also saw the laptop freezing (most probably due to explorer.exe again) occasionally.
Anybody has an idea?

After your remark, I have checked HP drivers page and saw that there are even newer BIOS version posted for 6930p but I did not see any related fixes in the release notes. So, I did not make any BIOS updates.
Currently, as a workaround, I disabled all options that puts the system in standby.
Thanks for the answer.

I have the same problem with 6930p, but on Vista and with Hibernate. Standby as far as I remember was causing a blue screen, so have disabled it already on the beginning ;-)
Any ideas how to address the hibernate issue?

I get around this by disconnecting everything from the laptop before entering hibernation. As long as i remember to do this it works fine.
I did the same thing with Vista before upgrading to 7.
