This post is quite hard to write for someone who has installed over > 200 laptops / workstations but here I go.
Just got in a brand new Probook 4540s and ran the Win8 installation just fine. Everything works as it should. I'm trying to make an image from the installation and I cannot seem to boot from CD on this machine.
I have tried using an external USB CD drive but this gives the same result. The CD drive spins up the cd and when the boot options menu is displayed my only options are:
- OS Boot Manager
- Notebook Ethernet IPV4
- Notebook Ethernet IPV6
- Boot From EFI File
The drive is enabled and set as a boot device in the BIOS.
What am I doing wrong here?

You have to go in bios configuration.
Then in "system configuration" menu, uncheck "secureboot" option.
After , u just have to choose "UEFI Hybrid (with CSM)" or "legacy" as "boot mode".
Have a nice day.

I'm going through the same issues in regards to booting from a DVD drive. I got a Hp 1000 with Windows 8 and have disbaled secure boot.
However when I tried to enable "Legacy Boot" there was a warning stating that it could prevent the OS from starting. Therefore I quit from enabling it.
Have you guys had any trouble after enabling legacy boot?
One more thing: in the "Boot Device Options" there are two options: "OS Boot Manager" (this one chosen) and "Boot from EFI file". Do these options have any influence in booting from the DVD drive?

Struggling to boot from the CD/DVD on an HP 4540 Laptop? You have to go into the BIOS configuration. Press ESC whenthe Laptop starts up, then press F10 Choose the "System Configuration" tab, expand 'Boot Options' and uncheck "Secureboot" option. You then just have to choose 'UEFI Hybrid (with CSM)' or 'Legacy' under 'Boot Mode'.

What about the ESC button? The BIOS setting might be set so that it doesn't wait for user input. You might need to press it VERY QUICKLY. ESC or F10
