Bios Reset NC6400

I am wondering how to reset a BIOS password (password needed to enter the systems BIOS) on a HP NC6400 Notebook. One of my former co-workers used the wrong password and I would like to reset it to our standard one.

Hi Rik, I have the same problem with the BIOS password - have you had any luck ?? I have tried what Jerry suggested by removing the RTC battery but it did not work - when I tried to enter the bios again it still asks me for the password - Thanks, Dave.

Yes Dave, I did had succes with resetting the systems BIOS. You have to follow the steps exactly as displayed in the document.

A quick and brief summary:

1) Turn off computer
2) Disconnect AC adapter
3) Remove battery pack, and remove the laptops keyboard
4) Disconnect RTC (Real Time Clock) battery (located underneath the keyboard, the red/white wire)
5) Leave off for five minutes
6) Reconnect the RTC battery and reassemble the laptop
7) Reconnect AC adapter (DO NOT REINSERT ANY BATTERIES AT THIS TIME!)
8) Turn on the computer and enter the BIOS by pressing F10
9) Set the new BIOS password and save all settings.
10) Turn off the laptop and reinsert the battery

I did had succes with resetting the BIOS settings. Below a quick and brief description:

1) Turn off computer

Hi, as I mentioned "were I was going wrong was inserting the laptop battery back in after reconnecting the RTC battery" please double check that you do not do this mistake and just follow the step by step instructions, IF it still has not worked I am sorry to say that I can not help you, unless you "google" and search through all the hits, hope you can get it fixed, Dave

i attempted the response for nc6000 but was not successful. I never gave me the option of changing the password. Only the administrator password request comes up after selecting f10.

I've done this several time. I even tryed leaving it disconnected overnight... still, no luck :(

Any other ideas??

Hey Rik,

Your instructions worked out perfectly, leave it disconnected for 15 min (on the very first attempt) and after plugit in, password got removed.

Will this smae scenario work for the HP Compaq Presario c700 Notebook? I have the same issue where I acquired my nephews notebook and he can't remember the bios password either.
