Does your laptop suffer from "startup blues" by refusing to POST? This seems to be an issue which is fixed? by replacing the system board at great cost to you.
I am attempting to work out exactly how widespread this problem is so I would be grateful if you could respond to this post by simply saying "yes" and also quote the product name and model number of your ailing machine. Please do so even if you were lucky enough to have it fixed under warranty.

NO, I have a NC6120 and if you look through all the threads the thing is a TOTAL LEMON... HP is so far being very difficult about this, even though I pointed out the numerous users reporting the EXACT same problem.
Yesterday it was working ok and suddenly shut down. Now when I press the power button, it start the fan and HD LED for few seconds, turn off fan and HD LED, turn on BATTERY LED in green, yellow, and shut down.
Hi I have a nx6120 which suffers startup blues. It takes approx 10 starts to get going. Either the systesm crashses at POST or at the windows login. I have changed the original memory, hdd and power adapter which only leaves the system board as the likely cause of the problem.
HP really should start a recall on the system boards as this is definitely a wide spread issue.
Compaq nc6000 - took the entire system out of the case, rebuilt it outside of the case and it powers on. It would seem as though something in the case is shorting out the MB.
Yes I have a Compaq NX6120 notebook that is 18 months old and at approx 11 months (feb 2007) after buying has showed this failure but at this first issue it has been sent to an authorized repair service in Argentina and the main board was replaced at no charge. Now six months later I am doing my work at Russia and I have suffered the same problem so the local repair at Moscow takes more than 10 workables days and costs around USD 500. So I`ve decided to buy a new one here in Russia at USD 720.00 . As I understand it may be a failure due to manfacturing because I have used other computers from Acer, IBM and Compaq (before it was owned by HP) and never has been two Main boards damaged in less than two years!. The serial number of my old laptop is ncu60311CX
Like Rikki, I have a nx6120 that freezes often when the USB Power Surge error message pops up (about 10 times consecutively). I also have experienced multiple reboots (at least 10). My NC6120 crashes during the POST, or if I'm lucking to reach it, at the Windows login screen.
It seems that most of our NC6000 series occurred once the warranty ended!
Same problem here. NC6120...seems like a powerconnection to the haddrive that is failing. It helps if you press on top of the laptop next to the pad...then it runs again...for a while :o(
same problem here.. NX6120 ..starup problem ..hard drive sometimes works sometimes NOT..most of the time NOT gggrrrrrrrrrrr !!!It works when you press top part next to mouse pad on left or right side.. I'll try to dismantle it and assemble it out of the case just like the other owner and see if it works out of case...
Appreciate any help/tips on solving this issue.
