Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

[ Edited ]

Hello Expert,

As per management request I need to configure auto port aggregation in 2 of our bl860C server having hp-ux 11.31 with having Oracle RAC.

In the network card it is showing

lan2                 Not Configured

lan0                 10.0.1.15

lan0:801         10.0.1.17

lan1                   Not Configured

lan3                   10.0.253.17

Here Lan0 (10.0.115) is my physical IP and lan0:801 (10.0.1.17) is the public virtual IP.

Please guide how to configure auto port aggregation for thsi setup and how to manage lan0:801 if I do apa between lan0 and lan2.

Appreciate for any help.

Regards

Try this link for an APA Administrators Guide:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.BINARYPORTLET/public/kb/docDisplay/resource.proc...

If that doesnt work for you, then tThis link should get you to page with the APA manuals:

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Do you wish to utilize APA for both physical and virtual interfaces or just one?  Why not use lan1 and lan2 to build the APA interface (lan900) and then migrate the interface(s) as required?

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Hi,

I am planning to do APA only for the physical and leave the virtual interface of Oracle RAC without touching it.

I can go by using lan1 and lan2 for creating APA for physical.

Could you please help me out with the steps to do this configuration.

Apprecaite your support.

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Use the 'smh' command to start the management homepage menu. Select networking, networking interfaces and then apa.  Press 'c' to start the configuration.  The wizard should get things started for you.

View the manual I posted earlier for details on options, etc.

Lastly, know that ports on the network switch will need to be configured properly as well.

So I will go with the APA configurations for lan1 and lan2 leaving lan0 as it is. Is it fine this way?

Well, the only thing you will need to be concerned of is the IP address changes.  You cant just remove lan0 without removing the virtual IP, but you can change its IP address of course.

Alright.. Thanks alot Bob

So I will tro to follow these steps

1. remove the IP address from lan0 for physical interface only. leaving the lan0:801 (virtual IP) as it is.

2. Configure the APA for lan1 & lan2

3. Assign the same IP of lan0 (Physical interface) to the new APA configured.

Is it fine?

Looks good, but I dont think you can remove the IP, but rather change it.  Even if its to something like 0.0.0.0

Of course you should do this from the system console and not through a network connection you are going to change :-)

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Hello Expert,

I need some more help on this issue..

Today I have an interaction with my SAN and network Administrator. As per their information what they are planning to do is as follows:

curently we have 2 core switch in our enviornment, 1 C7000 Blade enclosure having 4 BL860C server running with HP-UX 11.31. In the back of C7000 enclosure it is connected with 2 HP-VC Flex 10 Enet Module having 1 fibre connectvity in each card.

Currently we don't have network redundancy for our HP-UX serevrs because few HP-UX servers are connected with core switch 1 while other HP-UX servers are connected with core switch 2. In case one of the core switch goes down the serevr connected with that switch will also go down.

So to prevent from this situation what they are trying to do is  create a new VLAN using core switch 1 & 2 and then from that VLAN give it to each HP-UX servers.

Now my concerned here is after doing this configuration how I am going to get at HP-UX OS side? Does thsi configuration will dissolve my all network configuration and I have to reassign it for Physical IP, Virtual IP and Private network?

After doing this configuration how the NIC details will be appearing at the HP-UX OS side and will the name change or it will still be same as lan0, lan1, lan2 lan3.

what details I should have before doing thsi configuration, curently I have save lanscan and netstat -nr O/P for mac address information.

Many thanks for any help in advance.

Regards,

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Connect to the system via ILO (serial console). Start "smh" and delete the current IP settings, configure APA (lan0+lan1) and assign the IP. This works well with smh.

I assume you will get problems with the 2 IP addresses in the same subnet, read this:

Hope this helps!
