SNMP switching from v2 to v3

I have several thousand nodes currently being monitored using SNMP v2.  These are nodes are being reconfigured to use SNMP v3 Auth and Priv.  The the v2 configurations are remaining in place.  NNM is configured to to use either v2 or v3.

??  WIll NNM switch to v3 without any actions on my part?

?? If the v2 configuration is removed will NNM discover the v3 settings

?? WHat are my options for getting theses nodes using v3?

Humbly

Re: SNMP switching from v2 to v3

Bitdog,

  You asked:

??  WIll NNM switch to v3 without any actions on my part?

    - no.  NNMi will prefer v2 over v3.  You need to block the v2 communication, either on the agent or within the NNMi configuration.

?? If the v2 configuration is removed will NNM discover the v3 settings
Yes.  If v2 and v1 discovery fails and there are appropriate v3 settings then these will be tested and used.

?? WHat are my options for getting theses nodes using v3?

As described above.  Block the v2 access and v3 should result - if properly configured.

  Hope this  helps
