Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

Hi,

Please note that I am using HP 17'' monitor and other application GUI is perfectly fine. Also I tried to locate xorg.conf if at all helps me to get clue but that is missing insted "System->display" option available on Desktop itself, but no luck.

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

It is possible to run the NNMi installer in character mode using the "-i console" option.

setup.bin -i console

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

Hi,

I asume your working on the Linux X-console. It looks like the NNMi installation can't cope with that. Normally what you see is a $DISPLAY in de format of hostname:displaynumber.screennumber. You can try 'export $DISPLAY=localhost:0.0" but that probably won't work for tcp connections are disabled for a Linux X-server. You can try to use another X-server and start your installation from there. Another option might be the suggestion mentioned earlier './setup.bin -i console' but before you start this clear the DISPLAY variable with "unset DISPLAY". Success,

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

When you say you tried running xclock from your PC to you mean you tried running xclock and exporting the display to your PC?

You could try turning on some debug and see if you get some more clues:

export LAX_DEBUG=1

./setup.bin -i text

There should be a section on DISPLAY in the debug output.

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

Hi Krishna,

I had my doubts when I read "I am trying to install NNMi 9 on Linux RHEL 6 server" and these feelings get stronger. If you read the Operating System section at "NNMi System and Device Support Matrix" RHEL 6 is not mentioned. Maybe this is the cause of all your trouble.  Regards,

The thread was last posted to in 2011, not a current topic as RHEL v6 is supported in the latest releases.

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

This is still a relevant issue on RHEL 6.x as I had the exact same problem and I raised a case through our Premier support contract.

After a thorough investigation by a HP Support Engineer he has raised an Enhancment request.

See the reply below

After discussions with the lab and demonstrating the lab case: QCIM1B116713 has been acknowledged

as a Defect and is closed with Defect: QCCR1B117548 in which is asked for:

1. The console of install mode in the setup.bin script doesn't work. The document should explicitly state "only GUI or Silent " mode is available.

2. It requires the X-window environment to run setup.bin in GUI mode. The document should define this requirement as pre-requisite.

I only got it working by booting to Gnome and then running KDE within Gnome.

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

The GUI installation on a headless system can be performed using VNC or tunneled x over ssh, I've been doing it since v8.1 .

Have a nice day :)

Re: NNMi 9 installation display issue

A colleuge helped me. This works on RHEL5.8 + RHEL6.5

sudo yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64
sudo /mnt/cdrom/setup.bin LAX_VM /usr/bin/java

Works like a charm.

HP needs to fix the console installation but I don't think they've done it in 10 either... sad.
