I have this switch monitored by NNM 9.11 patch 2.
Logged on to the switch (Cisco IOS) I issue a "show ip inteface brief" and I get this information:
GigabitEthernet0/1 unassigned YES unset up up
GigabitEthernet0/2 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet0/3 unassigned YES unset up up
GigabitEthernet0/4 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet0/5 unassigned YES unset up up
I then in NNM issues a Configuration Poll and then a Status Poll and get this:
Poller: NnmSnmpPoller, Target Responding: true, P
Gi0/3 1 (Up) 1 (
Gi0/4 1 (Up) 2 (Down)
Gi0/48 1 (Up) 1 (Up)
Vl90 1 (Up) 1 (Up)
Gi0/28 1 (Up) 1 (Up)
Why!? I often get this "Interface Down" alarm on Admin Down ports in NNM to the annoyance for the operators.
Solved! Go to Solution.

We'd need a more complete idea for a better diagnosis.
Do you have IP address tracking enabled for this particular interface ?
How did this particular interface become managed in the first place ? Default device in the inventory to another device in the inventory rule ? Custom interface monitoring rule ?
Did your router/switch guys default the interface configuration after it was no longer in production/use ?

The issue is on the status poll, the column "IfAdminStatus" (first column). This shows 1(Up) and this is correct because the command "sh ip int brie" shows Admin status as Up. I see it says down, but admin status is up. If Admin status was down it would say "Administratively Down".
I hope that helps to clear it up?

Yes, you are right off course. I’m sorry for not noticing that.
But still, I do get Interface down on unmanaged ports occasionally... but I guess I should investigate further before posting.

No apologies necessary. That’s what we are here for; to help each other. I can't tell you how many times I've over-looked stuff. We work with these products every day and at times get really close to it. Sometimes we need a second or third set of eyes to show us what's going on. We are all in the same boat.
P.S. Don't forget to close the thread if the Admin status problem was solved. Also, if you still are stumped about the unmanaged ports, post another question.
