How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Dear Experts,

I am using NNMi 9.2X. And I wanted to enable email notifications and I have done the below configurations using blat.exe. but am not received any mails as well as no entry presented in blat.log file. Please help me to configure email alerts.

1.  Installed blat.exe using the below command.

Copied the blat files into the C:\Program Files(x86)\HP\blat

2. Through command line --> blat.exe -install  serveraddrss senderaddress

3. copied email.ovpl into the --> nnmDataDir\shared\nnm\actions folder with customized values as   attahed

Create a "logs" directory for the "email.ovpl" debug function, for example.

  1. c:\temp\blat\logs

4. and I have done the below configuration in the Interface Down event

  1. Select "Incident configuration" within NNMi
    - Open an "incident or trap"
    - Select the "Action Configuration" tab and check the "Enable" box.
    - In the action window select the "Lifecycle State", for example,  "Registered"
Select the command type:  "Script or Executable"
    - Enter the script name "email.ovpl" and the arguments:
      email.ovpl $firstOccurrenceTime $name $priority $severity $managementAddress $sourceNodeName $sourceObjectName

But I am not received any mail alerts . Please check my configurations and let me know where I had done mistake and advise the right configurations/syntax error if any.

Thanks in advance,

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Make sure you have allowed neceesary access from mail server. Also look into incidentActions.*.*.log for any permission related errors.

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Hi,

Also run blat.exe manually from command line to test the SMTP access. If this test is working fine you can troubleshoot NNM action issues easily.

<path>blat.exe -s "Test mail" -i "SMTP test" -to <your email address> -body " "

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Hi Chethan,

Thanks for the response.

I am able to receive mails when I execute manually from CLI. But its not working for the NNM alerts. Please find the  email.ovpl file.

Is there any syntax error like blat directory specification / and \. I tried both its not working.

There is no error in the log files.

Please advise.

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Hi,

Seems like you have not added the variables. Please add the correct values for SMTP address ,from , to address etc..

Also share the incident action*.log results.

Hi,

I have added all the from , to & SMTP server perfectly, but in the attachment I have just updated junk values.

Please find the log files.

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Hi,

Are there any alerts generated for parameter to which you have added the action scripts? If yes, there should be entry in the incidentaction.*.log.

Please add this email script to parameter from which alerts are getting generated frequently.

Re: How to configure Email Alert Notification in NNMi 9.23 Windows!!!

Hi,

I have added into the InterfaceDown management event. The same alert is triggring frequently in the console. PFA..

When I run the same command directly through CLI I am able to receive mails. But its not triggering from the actions to the same commad.

email.ovpl $firstOccurrenceTime $name $priority $severity $managementAddress $sourceNodeName $sourceObjectName

also am updating the incident to In Progress and i configured alert for the same, but still no luck.

please let me know if there is any syntax specification? or changes to be done?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Add complete path instead email.ovpl.

Just to make sure executables are working from NNM actions, Try to create a test batch file as below and add this script into incident action.

<path>blat.exe -s "Test mail" -i "SMTP test" -to <your email address> -body " "

[ Edited ]

The command is working when we give within ``. This is the error  I am getting in log file.

Error: Standard Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

I gave command as: `C:\Email\blat\email.ovpl $firstOccurrenceTime $name $priority $severity $managementAddress $sourceNodeName $sourceObjectName`

Hi,

It workd fine for me...

These are the issues.

1. My Actions directory has folder names with space

2. I had  created a new directory without space and copied email.ovpl script over there.

3.Given full path in the command without ``.

tried to generate alerts and I am able to receive mails.

Thanks a lot for youu support.
