Customizing alarm message NNM9i

Hi I need help.

NNM9i Windows 2008.

Integration between OMW 9 Win and NNM9i.

The alarm message that arrives in OMW from NNM has 2 fields, Node and Object. The Node field many times comes with IP Addr, which is not readable.

I would like to know if, it is possible to customize the alarm message in NNM9i to change the variable in hostname field for the variable sysName, which is already in field Source Node so to reflect it in OMW Node field.

TIA and best regards

Jose

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

It's probably easiest to change this in OMW.

Look at the attributes that come through with a message in OMW. Work out what position the sysName is at. You can then edit the OMW policy, and change which variable gets used for which field.

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

I'm just looking through a system I've got here, and I think we've changed our stuff around a fair bit over the last couple of years, so I'm not sure what is base configuration, and what has been added by us.

Maybe you could try using the ${systemName} object in your message?

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

Hi northlandboy.

I tried to change the object field, node field in OMW to $sysName, ${systemName}, ${sysName}, $systemName unsuccessfully.

Any hints?

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

Sorry, I meant change it in NNMi. This will change the message that comes through into OMW. You'll need to do a bit of manipulation in OMW to parse out that field, and put it into the right place, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

Hi Jose

I think you need to configure the Event Management you want to assign to your alarm NNMi to reach these Java GUI console OMU.

  1. CustomPollWarning
  2. CustomPollMajor
  3. CustomPollMinor
  4. CustomPollCritical

 example
CustomPollWarning to open it modifies Message Format

  •  Value> ($ cia.custompoller.instanceDisplayValue) Node-($ sourceNodeName) PI - ($ managementAddress) - ($      cia.custompoller.variable.description)

When you set the Expression MIB shows you the fields:

 Instance Configuration Display

  • Conversion Algorithm
  • Variable Display
  • Display Filter
  • description

In shaping the message you send for Variable Display attributes and description as I showed in the example.

So in this way you can customize your alerts to be well identifiacadas Java GUI with node fields, value affected political  and description of the error message.

Re: Customizing alarm message NNM9i

Hello Jose

Do you speak Spanish? would be easier

Good. I explain

1.- Set Mib Expression mib_exp.jpg

  • Combersion Algorithm: MIB Variable

  • Variable Display: This option you choose a MIB of the result you want

in my case is the total CPU and sends me the value in the message.

  • Description: You write a text related to the incident to have it displayed in the message.

Then we go to Settings> Incident> Event Configuration Management

1.-If you want to configure the alert type is Warning, Critical, Major, Minor

Change the message format example cust_poll_warning image.

Value> ($ cia.custompoller.instanceDisplayValue) Node-($ sourceNodeName) PI - ($ managementAddress) - ($ cia.custompoller.variable.description)

I am attaching a summary of the three steps to the customization
