Auto-Discover Servers (and OS running) - Is it possible?

Hello,

I am using NNMi 9.20 on RHEL 6.4.
I am trying to scan a subnet for runnning servers,
and I would like to collect information on OS running, either directly or not (e.g. by checking for open port 22)

Is it possible?

thanks!

Re: Auto-Discover Servers (and OS running) - Is it possible?

NNMi is not a port-scanning tool. It's only going to be able to identify the OS if it has SNMP access.

nmap is a fast free alternative for network scanning and OS identification.
